Why do I need the Payouts feature to use Atoa with Shopify?

Last updated on Apr 01, 2025

Shopify requires the ability to process instant refunds directly from their admin dashboard. This is only possible with Atoa’s Payouts feature. Without it, refunds wouldn’t meet Shopify’s one-click refund requirement.

What does "instant refund" mean in Shopify, and how does Atoa support it?

Shopify requires that merchants issue refunds directly from their Shopify admin dashboard in one click. This is what they call an "instant refund." To make this work with Atoa, you’ll need to enable the payouts feature, which powers this refund functionality.

Can I accept Atoa payments on my Shopify store?

Yes, you can connect Atoa as a payment method on your Shopify store and start accepting secure, direct bank payments in just a few steps.

What happens with my bank account when I activate Payouts?

You'll continue to use one bank account to receive all your payments for your Shopify store. With Payouts, the only change is that settlements happen once a day (daily payouts), instead of instantly. It’s all automatic and will show up in your Atoa dashboard.

No need to worry—nothing else about your banking setup changes.

When will I receive my payments if I’m using Payouts?

If you’re using Atoa’s Payouts feature, payments will still appear in your Atoa dashboard in real-time. However, your funds will be settled in your linked bank account by the end of the day (EOD)—not instantly.

This applies whether you’re accepting payments from Shopify or other channels like QR codes and payment links for in-store payments.

Do I need to verify my business before accepting payments?

Nope, not right away! You can start accepting Atoa payments straight after completing a few basic registration steps.

However, once your customers send you over £20 in total, you’ll need to complete your business verification to continue receiving payments into your account. Don’t worry—we’ll let you know when it’s time to do this.
