Getting started with my card terminal

Last updated on Jul 08, 2026

Atoa now offers payment via Terminals for Card Payments and Pay by Bank Payments.

I've just received my new card terminal, what should I do first?

  1. Connect the Terminal to power

Plug the charger into the mains and connect the USB-C charger to the terminal, to charge

  2. Connect to your Wi-Fi network

Follow the on-screen prompts to connect the terminal to Wi-Fi (more detailed steps later in the article)

  3. Process a £1 test payment (recommended)

Make a test payment via the Terminal for £1. This helps confirm that the terminal is configured correctly and ready to accept payments from customers (You can then cancel the transaction by swiping right to left on the Terminal and selecting "Void")

  4. Check that a receipt is printed

Verify that after payment a receipt is printed successfully on the terminal. If you prefer receipts are not printed, you can update your receipt settings on the terminal by going to Settings - Receipt settings

  5. Confirm that payment successfully appears in your Atoa Business Dashboard

Log in to your Atoa Dashboard and check that the transaction is visible on the Payments Page

You’re ready to take payments! Place your terminal at your checkout, keep it charged, and ensure Wi-Fi stays connected for smooth transactions.

How do I connect my PAX terminal to Wi-Fi?

If your terminal isn’t connected to the internet, the Atoa POS app will show an alert: “No internet detected.”

  • On the alert screen, tap Wi-Fi settings.
(You’ll also see an option for Roaming settings, but you only need Wi-Fi).

  • The device will automatically take you to the Wi-Fi settings page.

  • Select your preferred Wi-Fi network. Enter the password and tap Connect.

Once connected, you’ll be returned to the Atoa POS app and can continue with setup.

Tip: Keep your terminal close to your router for a stable connection.

How do I install the paper roll?

  • Pull the latch on top of the terminal’s printer cover to open it.

  • Place the paper roll inside with the paper feeding from the bottom and rolling forward.

  • Pull a small strip of paper outside the lid.

  • Close the cover until it clicks shut.

Tip: Use high-quality 58 mm thermal paper to get clear prints and reduce jams.

Remember to change your password

The default password for voiding transactions is 9299.

For security reasons, we strongly recommend updating this to a unique code that is only known to authorised staff.

We suggest you continue to change your password on a regular basis.

How to Change your Password

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen.

  2. Select Change Password.

  3. Enter "9299" in the Old Password field.

  4. Enter your new passcode in the New Password field.

  5. Re-enter the same code in the Confirm Password field.

  6. Press Submit/OK to save.

Your passcode is now updated.
