How do I connect Atoa to Dentally?

Last updated on Jun 02, 2026

There are four ways to use Atoa with Dentally:

  • Atoa dashboard – Send payment links and manage payments directly from your Atoa account

  • Chrome plugin – Collect and track payments inside your Dentally dashboard without switching tabs

  • PAX terminal – Take card and Pay by Bank payments through your Atoa card terminal

  • Dentally Booking SDK – Embed payments into the Dentally booking flow (requires a developer and access from the Atoa team)

You must connect Atoa to Dentally through the dashboard first before using the Chrome plugin or PAX terminal.

What do I need before getting started?

Before connecting, make sure you have:

  • An active Atoa account

  • A Dentally account

  • A valid Dentally API key

If you're using the Chrome plugin, you'll also need Google Chrome. The plugin is not supported on other browsers or mobile devices.

If you're using the PAX terminal, you'll also need card payments enabled on your Atoa account.

How do I connect Atoa to Dentally through the dashboard?

  • Go to Settings and select the Integrations tab.

  • Click on the Manage button under the Dentally option.

  • Enter your Dentally API key and click Connect.

Once connected, you can start sending payment links through the dashboard. This connection also enables the Chrome plugin and PAX terminal integrations.

How do I take payments through the Atoa dashboard, app, or terminal?

You can collect payments from patients using the Atoa dashboard on desktop, the Atoa merchant app on your phone, or a PAX payment terminal, whichever works best for your team. All three show the same patient fields, so the process is the same across each.

To send a payment link from the dashboard or app:

  • Go to Links in the left-hand menu and click New Link.

  • A sidebar will appear with additional fields for Dentally. Enter the Patient ID and click Search to find the patient you want to bill. Then select the Site ID and Practitioner ID, enter the amount, and click Create and send payment link.

Once the patient pays, the payment will automatically sync to your Dentally account and appear under that patient's name in your Dentally dashboard.

How do I give a refund?

Refunds can only be processed through the Atoa dashboard. They cannot be issued from within Dentally.

  • Go to Links in the left-hand menu and click on the payment you want to refund. A sidebar will appear, scroll to the bottom and click Refund.

  • Enter the refund amount and add a remark if helpful. Click Continue.

How do I use the Atoa Chrome plugin with Dentally?

The Atoa Chrome plugin lets staff send payment links directly from inside the Dentally portal, without switching to another tab or app.

Step 1: Connect Atoa to Dentally

Make sure you've already connected your accounts through the Atoa dashboard (see above).

Step 2: Install the Chrome extension

Install the Atoa plugin from the Chrome Web Store: Install Atoa Chrome extension

Once installed:

  1. Click the Extensions icon in your Chrome toolbar

  2. Pin the Atoa extension so it's easy to find

  3. Click the Atoa icon to open the sidebar

  4. Log in with your Atoa credentials and click Allow Access

You're now ready to use Atoa inside Dentally. No additional configuration is needed, the extension connects to Dentally automatically.

How do I collect payments using the Chrome plugin?

Search for a patient in Dentally and open their profile. The Atoa sidebar will show any pending payments for that patient.

To create a new payment request:

  1. Enter the amount

  2. Confirm the patient's contact details

  3. Set a due date and reminders if needed

  4. Send the payment link

Once the patient pays, the status updates from Pending to Paid in the sidebar. The payment will also appear automatically under the Payments tab in the patient's Account section in Dentally.

How do I use Atoa with a PAX terminal through Dentally?

If you have a PAX terminal connected to your Atoa account, the Dentally integration should reflect automatically once it's been enabled on your account.

If you're an existing merchant adding Dentally to your terminal setup, you may need to contact us to update your terminal application. Custom fields for Dentally are supported on Atoa PAX version 1.0.30 and above. Site ID and Patient ID fields require version 1.0.32 or above.

How does website booking work for patients?

With the Atoa Booking SDK, patients can book appointments and pay directly on your practice website, without needing to call or visit in person.

Here's what the experience looks like for the patient:

  1. The patient visits your website and clicks the Book Appointment button

  2. They select their preferred location, service, and practitioner

  3. New patients verify their phone number with a one-time code and complete a short registration

  4. The patient picks a date and available time slot

  5. They review their appointment details and pay: by card or Pay by Bank

  6. They receive an SMS confirmation once the booking is complete

All bookings appear automatically on your Dentally dashboard, so your team can manage and track them straight away.

How do I access the Dentally Booking SDK?

The Dentally Booking SDK lets you embed Atoa payments directly into the Dentally booking flow. To get access, contact us at hello@paywithatoa.co.uk. Please note that some developer resources will be needed on your end to complete the integration.

A few things to know

  • Refunds can only be processed through the Atoa dashboard, not from within Dentally.

  • To use Atoa with a PAX terminal through Dentally, you'll need card payments enabled on your Atoa account.

  • The Chrome plugin and PAX terminal integrations both require the core Atoa–Dentally connection to be active first.

  • This integration relies on Dentally’s open APIs.
